Christopher McLaughlin began oil painting in 2010.

He generally works in a figurative mode. He has done both portraits and landscapes, as well as subjects loosely based on classical masterworks. He has employed tonalist style, but many of his paintings have a heightened palette.

A series of his landscapes are of outer Cape Cod. He likes to explore varied styles from the 19th and 20th centuries while lending a contemporary American note.
